So finally tomorrow, if the Lord wills, I will be ordering my pc, I'm almost completely sure of what I want, yet, I will ask.

R9 290X vs GTX 780 for the Rift and Star Citizen (on that precise hardware). I will also play, of course on a 1080 normal display, but right now, I'd like to know what would give me the most sterling performance (and hopefully 120 fps). Keep in mind heat -reasonably, explain it-, but not noise as I play games on headphones. I will not be able to grab a reference cooled model.

Note that grabing the GTX allows me to acquire 8gb extra ram, having a more ideal config for SC.

I'd love to have OR users commenting on their experience with each graphics card branch, too.

Right now, the 780 is a much better deal no matter which model you pick. They are faster on average, quieter, and do not use as much power. The only reason i can't recommend the 290x is because the price recently has gone way up.

The 290x has also been tested under water, and it has been concluded that the aftermarket coolers will not give it the performance boost it needed, as well as they will expel way more heat than any of the 780 models will.

I personally have the asus direct cuii 780, while my friend has a reference 290x. Yes there are a few games he beats me in, but once i overclock my card even to save levels, i tend to smoke him in almost every game, and if he ever does beat me, it is only by 1 or 2%

I've already linked this a few times to people today, and the AMD fanboys have some extremely salty tears. It seems that the extra cooling doesnt provide as much improvement as everyone including myself though it would. And with the litecoin miners buying up all the AMD stock and the current 290/290x prices the 780 is a sweet sweet deal, even the Ti version with its price tag.
