Good afternoon all,
Thanks to recommendations here Ihave started my new build and am at the choosing the right hard drives for it. The unit will be used primarily for photo/video editing and casual surfing and mail. The main programs running on it will be GIMP, Chrome (Google) and a couple of video editors. I am looking for 2 drives one just for the programs and the other for scratch/editing. Thanks to all here this is what I have gotten so far:

MSI Computer Corp. Socket AM3+ AMD 970 DDR3 SATA3 and USB 3.0 A&GbE ATX Motherboard 970A-G43

And this processor:
AMD FD8320FRHKBOX FX-8320 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition

PNY NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 2GB GDDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card VCGGT6302XPB

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10) (more to be added later)

I am not sure what size to get for the primary drive mostly, as I want to go with at least 1TB for the scratch disk and am asking for suggestions fromthe community. I am steering clear of Seagate and have been looking hard at the WD Black series but welcome all suggestions.

Thank you for the suggestion! I am afraid those are out of my price range for the nonce.

I agree with 2x4b.

What video editors are you using? I assume form your GPU selection that they don't rally use GPU rendering (gimp doesnt either) but can they use all 8 cores? You might be overspending if not and possibly be fine with a 4 core.

For video editors I am using Adobe Premiere and a couple of rippers. Gimp can use multi core functions for some of its edits so I went with 8 the card is more for color correction and shading values
