So for Christmas I decided to pick up a new motherboard as my old one had broken and I decided to wait until Christmas to get a new one as a gift. But on Christmas day after I had installed the board into my computer, windows would not boot correctly. After reading online I found that if you are using an OEM licence for windows (which I was) then the operating system is in a way bound to that motherboard. I also read that if I phoned Microsoft and explained to them that my previous board had gone faulty then they would allow a re-activation of the licence. However after running the slui.exe 4, selecting my country (Ireland) and calling the number I found that it was not working. I was wondering what my next step is to re-activating my licence, or will I have to purchase a new one?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

2 u=issues:

1. Activating an OEM license on a new motherboard. Microsoft is under no obligation to allow that.

2. Running a previously installed OS on new hardware. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. As you have seen...yours will not boot correctly. The new motherboard is too different.

You best option to actually get it working is a full reinstall. But your current license key is in fact bound to that old motherboard, and will not activate on the new hardware.
