Okay I just finished building a new computer, the board I have is a M5A97 R2.0. This mobo has no onboard graphics, and therefore no vga output. As a result I assumed I would have to simply use my gtx650ti card and the system would display. Well that didnt work so i tried to research and many said to remove the mobo battery to reset the bios, so I did yet still no luck. I cant post pictures so not much help there. I have a 500W power supply so yes it can power everything and it sounds like it boots properly (fans come on, led's come on, green light on mobo and blue light on the front of my case)

So you have everything hooked up normally. All power cables to graphics card, etc and a cable from your card to your monitor?

ya, there is a 6 pin wire going into my gpu from the psu and then my gpu is plugged into mobo. Out of the back of gpu is a vga port (it is black and longer than the simple vga imput) and requires an adapter (which I have) and then a normal vga imput goes into my monitor ? :/

So you do have a cable going from your card to your monitor right? It shouldn't matter which one you use.

ya, on my old pc I just udes the vga cable (without adapter) and it worker, unfortunatley there is no basic vga slot on the 650ti and there is no output on the mobo.

no, unfortunatley not, though the card is not new, i was using it just before I built the new one today ? the gpu fans run though.

Check the psu cable going into the card and really make sure it is seated, or use another 6 pin if you can. The fans will run if it is only getting power off the mobo, but won't run without the psu cable.

i checked and it appears to be in tight, but my psu only has one 6 pin, and I dont own any others, though again the psu is the same from before and ran with the gtx650 earlier today

the mobo is brand new out of the box today, but one thing i noticed (though there are no drivers installed obviousley) is that that little speaker that can be plugged into the board makes no sound when I boot-up. Though if its powering the cpu and gpu fans the board must be operating okay, right ?

Not really, since this mobo has not worked yet as far as you know that could be the issue as you know the 650 and psu both worked earlier.

ya i thought that may be a possibility, but its band new (this morning) and the clerk at the store ran through a check on it and signed off saying it was good. I really hope its not the mobo, as I just spent 110$ on it this morning and it cannot be refunded...

If you bought it from a store bring it back and have a different person test it for you, and odds are that a random clerk doesn't know much about the computers and who is to say that their testing gear actually works.

on the subject of a damaged mobo, it couldnt be possible that i gave it a static charge if the power was always off and unplugged when working inside it ?

Doesn't matter if power is off or on, a static discharge is never good.

oh ok, well there never was no static or anything that I noticed by any means, the cpu was on a wooden desk the whole time so I do think it is really unlikely that happened. I will call ASUS tommorow and tell them their board isnt working, hopefully they will replace it or something

That's probably your best option as it is difficult to troubleshoot anything when you can't power up.
