I am using the Trendnet ac1200 wireless networking usb. I have ocnnected to my routers AC connection but it appears to windows as n and I am getting a max of 300 Mbps. Any ideas?

Solution
If you have the ssid the same for 2.4g and 5g it will in most cases detect a stronger signal on the 2.4g and connect there. 802.11ac only runs on the 5g band.

The largest issue is that the 802.11n is a subset of 802.11ac. If it cannot get a good enough signal it will fall back to ones that are the same as 802.11n. You likely could force it to use 80mhz channels and that would mean you will always get 802.11ac but that does not mean you will always get the full speed.

So, would changing the channel increase my speed? How would i change the channel to 80mhz? I cannot seem to find that. I have a Netgear r6300v2.

Had not looked at the manual for that router before. I sure won't be buying this router. It appears they dumb everything down for the most stupid person in the world. They pretty much don't have options to change much. It is most interesting they don't even allow all the 5g channels that are allocated.

Only option I saw was to set the 5g to the fastest and hope it uses it I guess.
