During win 7 install my computer crashes with the blue screen of death

I just build my first computer so i guess this is to be expected from a newbie but i finished putting all the components in and put the win 7 installation cd in. It boots up files load, it asks what hard drive i want to put it in and then it starts to download the files. Around 1-10 percent the download stops and the blue screen of death appears. I tried changing my sata mode to adcp or something close to that name instead of ide but still the same blue screen appears. I tried with one stick of ram and still a dud. Right now its a one stick of 8gb of ram maybe i can try a 2gb ram and try. Anyone have any ideas why it keeps crashing? is it hardware problem?

Use Hirens Boot CD, run a memtest on the ram, then run wd diagnostics on the hard drive. This is to check to see if the hardware is good.
