Headset with single 3.5mm male jack

Solution
the headset you have likely is a 4pole 3.5mm jack (4 different sections on the plug end) while headphones are normally 3pole and microphones are often 3 pole.

what you originally picked out looks like a splitter... which isnt really exactly what you need

what chalk suggested might work however this product specifically lists "for using a phone headset for pc" so is likely wired correct"

basically you want a "phone headset" (4pole) to "pc" (2x3pole) conversion cable. (just search for "phone headset to pc 3.5mm")
Cant think of any reason why it wouldnt work, and when it costs 65c there isnt much to lose by trying.

EDIT: Actually upon looking at it closer, I dont think it will work. Far as I can tell all it will do is split the signal, basically just letting you plug your headset (or whatever you could want) into two things instead of one. It doesnt say anywhere that it will split the Audio and Microphone signals.

This cable should work as far as I can tell.
