CPU temperature question for Haswell i5 4570

So I just built my first PC last weekend, and since I've had it running, it's been idling at around 40 degrees C and when running games it hits the 90-98 degree range. Can I continue to run at these temps or should I try reapplying thermal paste and the heat sink?

Whoa cpu temps heating up to 90 - 98? That's pretty insane.
Can i know the pc specs and what games on what settings?
Was there any overclocking done?
If the your cpu runs at those temps there's definitely a problem.

PC specs:
CPU - Intel i5 4570
Graphics - EVGA GTX 770
Memory- 8 gbs
PSU - Corsair 500 W
Mobo - Gigabyte B85M-D3H
Case - Corsair 300r with 2 case fans

I've been running bioshack at ultra, Civ 5 as well, which both bring the processor up to the 90 degree range and have run less graphically demanding games with the same result

I definitely would not continue using it at those temps. At this point, I'd jump to an aftermarket cooler and some decent thermal paste, but that's me. At the very least, take off the heat sink and clean both it and the CPU mating surfaces with some isopropyl alcohol and reapply thermal paste.

I guess I'll try reapplying thermal paste first, but would I really need a third party heat sink? Isn't the stock fan sufficient for the 4570, as it's not overclocked?

lower your game settings.
Stock fan might be faulty? or somehow just not working. A third party heatsink/cooler might worth it if overclocking is involved. But i guess you can use to replace your stock heatsink.
You might also want to increase the number of fans for better cooling and moving more air in and out more efficiently.( with CFM greater than or equal to 70)
You might also want to get a psu with more voltage because you're just barely running the gpu (minimum is 500w?).

Should it be? Yeah, it should be, but stock heatsinks and fans are plain crap, and Haswell CPUs are known to run quite hot. Be glad it's an Intel one, though, because AMD stockers are the worst I've ever seen. You can get third party coolers for ~$30, well worth the money. The Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo comes to mind, I use it with my Sandy Bridge i5 and absolutely love it.

You should have made your own thread, instead of bumping an old one, anyway, you're fine with those temps.
