Hi!

I am looking into getting this graphics card for my new PC:
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 650 Ti - 2 Gt GDDR5 - PCI-Express 3.0 (GV-N65TOC-2GI)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

The motherboard I selected is the Asus H87-PRO with an i5 4670k CPU:
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H87PRO/#specification...

I was checking with a PC parts compatibility checker (http://gooeypc.com/) whether those 2 would go together, but according to them, the motherboard does not support PCIe 3.0 16x. But on the specs link, it is however mentioned...

Am I safe to buy this? Will it work? Is GooeyPC wrong, or am I overlooking something myself?

Many thanks!

ElFred.

It is safe to buy this. However, don't you think your GPU is a little weak for the other components? Why not get a GTX660 or a Radeon HD7870? They both are mid range GPUs which will enhance your PC. However, with that being said, your build seems good. However, if you're going to OC, don't forget to get a beast cooler or else you'll fry the CPU... Look at water cooling or a Hyper 212 Evo. Hope this helped! :)

Thanks for the quick answer!

Why exactly would it seem too light for this system and how much more is the GTX 660 then able to deliver?

I'm not planning to OC in the near future, but would want to keep it open as an option. In that case I'll have to check for better cooling. For a start, I wanted to see how well the stock cooler of the CPU is performing in this setup.

The stock cooler is perfectly adequate for normal use with no overclocking so you're fine. But when you do decide to overclok, you need to get an aftermarket cooler like the hyper 212 evo. And yes, definitely go for the 660 over the 650 if you can. It's a lot better card. But depending on your budget. I would personally recommend the R9-270X. It's the best card for the price in my opinion and can run any game on medium to high settings with over 60 FPS

The R9 270X is $220 on Newegg. If you don't mind the extra price, Jared has a good point. It makes even more sense with the Mantle coming. However, Nvidia cards have PhysX. It all depends on preferences and price now :p

No, go for the 270, its like 50 bucks cheaper and performs better then the 270x when overclocked. It's a better option since that's where your budget it.

I'd prefer to stick with the GeForce GTX series graphic cards. I was looking into both 650 and 660, but fail to understand if there is any "big" performance difference between the two. Price-wise there is not thát much difference, but if I can save a bit, I'd gladly take it. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me understand the main difference between those 2 ?

If it's only between those two then go for the 660. The performance is far greater then the 650.

Go for the 660. It is greater in almost every way and there's no way you won't like it. It's amazing card and will also last longer in terms of being future-proof. The 660 is a far superior GPU and even if it costs extra, I'd go for it. You will never regret buying thr 660... Hope this solved your query :)

Was looking at this one:

http://www.pixmania.fi/naytonohjain/msi-geforce-gtx-660...

It's on offer :)

I didn't understand a thing because it was in French. However, if they're giving you a 660TI cheap, then go for it. However, look for a 760 with an offer as it is slightly better. But that's not saying a 660TI is bad :p
