Please advise on my first build. This desktop is broken down into 2 phases. It will be used mostly for 3d modeling, rendering, basic animations, and some video and graphic editing. I use Rhino, Maya, 3ds max, processing, CAD and Revit with a little photoshop/illustrator/premier/after effects. I don't game at all. Here is the first phase of parts to be purchased:

Would love to hear if phasing upgrades like this is a wise choice. Any suggestions? The only other thing I'm stumped on is whether or not to get windows 8.

While I'm not going to say I know much about the editing and 3d modeling stuff that you are going to be using it for, my first suggestion would be to get the latest generation of motherboard and cpu, instead of going with ivy bridge. That will give you more options to upgrade in the future, and shouldnt change the price much. something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1495336, though this combo would drop the max amount of ram you could use to 32g, which should be more than enough.
You might also look into getting a Quaddro card instead of the GTX, while they are MUCH more expensive, they would work much better for the the 3d design side of things, as that is what they are designed for. The gtx series will be better for gaming, but not nearly as good for productivity.
