I want a good graphics card that can run just about everything. I'm trying to decide between a GTX 780 or R9 270. I know that the 780 is most likely way better it's just that I have an AMD motherboard and CPU. Will that affect an NVidia card's performance at all. My current system: MSI 97A-G43 MOBO, AMD FX 8350 CPU. If you have any different card suggestions I'll gladly accept them. My current budget for the card is $600. NOTE: I'm also trying to pick the card that has the best cooling.

Well that is like comparing a $5 steak to a $30 steak....

The 780 is a MAJOR step above a 270. Honestly I think if you're willing to spend that much, this is your best option:

The next best thing would be to either wait til the 290 drops back down to $400 and then overclock it with a waterblock, or spend a bit more and get a 780ti. An nVidia card will work totally fine with your system, don't worry about it.

Edit: I also agree that you should ditch that mobo and go for the M5A97.

Go for the 780. But I'm worried about your current setup. That Mobo is not good for 8 core processors as it has a lot of problems with it and overclocking your processor could prove dangerous and could very easily damage your Mobo. I recommend selling your MSI board and get a cheap M5A97 because its a very good reliable board that wont crap out on you.

Get the 780 it wont affect it at all. In fact you will get way better performance from the 780. Pluss the 708 haz excellent cooling the reference is a blower design so it exhausts the heat directly out of your case so as not to effect parts inside your case. I have mine overclocked to 1150 mh
and it doesn't go over 65 degrees but i do have an aggressive fan curve!

you can use either but a custom r9 290 would be a better, cheaper card. not sure why you are comparing a 780 and r9 270. those are completely different price/performance brackets.

there is absolutely NO reason to change your motherboard and if you have windows 7 OEM it would require a new license. Don't change it unless there is a problem.

I agree with unksol.. But i still think you would be better of with a 780 it will tear the 290 to pieces if you know what you doing.. That said the 290 much better price to performance and worth getting if you dont care for physx or recording gameplay.. Remember mantle will come out in a year or two and it will give the 290 a performance bump...
