The name kinda explains what I want to know. I am thinking of getting a new CPU and/or GPU but don't know if my motherboard can take them.

Motherboard: Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3
CPU I'd like to get: AMD FX 8350
GPU I'd like to get: Radeon R9 270X

Also, Currently I have an AMD FX 4100 CPU and a AMD Radeon 7750 2GB Sapphire GPU. How much could I sell those for (how much are they worth second-hand?)

Your motherboard would support both of those upgrades, though you may require a BIOS upgrade before supporting the FX-8350 (BIOS ver F3 required). As for selling your current components, you might get $50-$60 for each.

Thank-you for your help. Will I need the BIOS upgrade if my computer is relatively new (it was made this summer)?

That still depends on your motherboard. You will need to confirm which version BIOS you are currently running (normally displayed somewhere on the POST screen).

And one last question (sorry). How do I update my BIOS. I found the download on their website (I downloaded the latest version - F4, does this matter?) and tried to run the program but it told me it was incompatible because it's a 16 bit program.

BIOS is not something you want to mess up with. If done haphazardly or an error occurs, you could brick your computer. There should be VERY SPECIFIC instructions included with the download. If not, find them on the Gigabyte web site. Follow those instructions to the letter!

And no, version F3 or version F4 will not matter.

Just checked my POST screen and I'm already running F4, so that's one less job to do.

Then you're all set for the FX-8350 and R9 270X.
