I've searched the forum for similar cases that might have been solved already, but alas, I couldn't find one, nor through using Google (or maybe my search was just too generic).

So here's my problem:

My Motherboard is an Asrock Extreme 9 990FX, and I'm using the inboard sound chip that does not work at all.

My front panel audio jack does not work, nor my rear panel audio jack. When I plug-in a speaker or an headset, all I could hear is crackling/static noise. I've installed the latest drivers from Asrock's website, and yet there's no sound output aside from that static noise.

The driver that I installed is:
Realtek high definition audio driver ver:6788

Is there something that I should look onto to get this to work? Or is this an hardware issue, and I should just fetch myself a dedicated sound card?

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. And hopefully I could save a couple of bucks by not buying a sound card. :)

By the way, I already looked into this topic: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/301785-30-realtek-aud...

The solution posted there did not help at all on my case.

Bog standard onboard by realtek should just work really.

The only thing I would check is that the case header isn't causing any problems, so I would try without that.

Also double check within windows the sound output is from the correct device.

Failing that its pretty much dead id say.

Not a unheard of thing sadly, I have a Asrock board here the same happened to.

I have several Asus DG cards as they are cheap and have a ok headphone amp built in, so maybe use it as an excuse to upgrade a little?

Yea, all else failed. I guess I'll have to fetch myself a sound card.

Thanks anyways.
