Help! Can My Motherboard support 3.0 Gpu.

My brother gave me his motherboard and cpu because he got Asus m5a97 rev 2.0 and Amd Fx-6300. My motherboard is Gigabyte ga-m52l-s3 rev 1.0 i think. And Cpu AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+. Can this run 3.0 gpu. More specifically,Asus radeon hd 7790. I heard there is that bottlenecking ??? And if you can please tell me who is good psu for this combination.

  1. What do you mean by 3.0 gpu? Are you talking about PCI-Express?
  2. Well a PCIe 3.0 is backward compatible so it will work yes. However that board is getting on a bit now and really the rest of the machine will hamper the performance. You can use the card but if you are wanting to play newer games then you will need to consider a motherboard and CPU upgrade in the near future.

    To be safe you will need a 500W PSU. Prices depend on your country. Get a PSU that is at least 80 plus certified. I recommend Corsair and XFX which I had experience with.
