Hello.

Just a simple question but I'm not very good at calculating power draw and wattage. If you have any suggestions on how to calculate wattage for computer components, let me know.

So the parts in my computer are as follows.
MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 motherboard
AMD A10-5800k APU 4.0ghz quadcore (overclocked from 3.8ghz, no voltage change)
AMD Radeon HD 7660D graphics 800mhz gpu (an integrated gpu)
Corsair Vengence 2x 4gb @ 1600mhz ram
Western Digital 320gb SATA2 hard drive @ 7200rpm
Hitachi 60gb SATA1 hard drive @ 5400rpm
Corsair CX430 430watt power supply
Six 120mm fans. One runs on 5V. Three are blue LED.

That is what I have plugged into my computer at the moment.
All this calculation for wattage involves minimum power draw at idle and average and all this gibberish with like 5 charts. I know hard drives use about 5 to 7 watts and a video card will use up to 75 watts without a supplemental power connector.

I've wanted to get an Radeon HD 7770 for a long time now. But now AMD has their R7 and R9 series cards out.

I've taken a look at them and I believe the R7 260X would be a good alternative to the HD 7770.
For one it has 253 more cores than the HD 7770.
Secondly it uses 10 watts less compared to the HD 7770.
And lastly it has Mantle API support.

These are the 2 specific cards I've had my eye on.
SAPPHIRE 100358L Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition
ASUS R7260X-DC2OC-2GD5 Radeon R7 260X

The Sapphire card lists it's recomended powersupply at 400watt however the ASUS card does not. I've looked around the internet and cannot find a recomended powersupply for the card. I'm not sure if Sapphire's card uses the 125watt like the reference design card.

So to review, the HD 7770 will work with my system. The R7 260X is better. The HD 7770 reference uses 125 watt and the R7 260X uses 115 watt. Does that mean the R7 260x will work with my system as well? Also I see no point in putting a R7 250 in my system as it has the same number of cores as my A10.

Go with the Radeon R7 260X. It is better than the 7770 and don't worry about the wattage. the Corsair CX430 can handle it

Are you sure? I know the 260X uses 10watt less, but that's the reference design.

You should go with the R7 260X. It compares to the 7790, its got trueaudio and it will get mantle. Whats not to like? And yes your PSU will handle it

The real question here is power draw, not performance. Yes I know you want me to go with the 260X. But what's the point if my powersupply can't handle it? I might as well go with a 280 or a 290 and buy a better beefy powersupply.

The R7 260X is more powerful than the 7770. It will use more power than the 7770. It is more close to the 7790 when it comes to power consumption. If you want to play it safe 100% upgrade to a 500W model.

Well that sure contradicts what AMD says. I'll try and do some more research then.
