It says my cores are 4

But logical processors say 8?

But I have 8 cores?

Solution
Like "bigsmiler53" said, it is normal. You can download "CPU-Z" and see if it is showing 8 cores. If it does then there is no problem.

Try this:

Open "System Configuration". (Windows + R), type in "msconfig" and press OK.
Under "Boot" Tab click on "Advanced Options" and check "Number Of Processors" and select 8.
Press OK and Apply.
Reboot.

I hope that works.

Damn, my knowledge of AMD and Windows 8 is limited. I know on my intel I can limit the amount of active cores in BIOS. I would start your search there.

I did install Windows 8.1 on my new build, kept it for a week. Reinstalled Windows 7, oh the joy of going back to Windows 7 after trying to work around Windows 8 seriously unfriendly interface. I thought all the talk on the internet was everyones usual reluctance to accept change but no they are pretty much all correct... it is a step backwards.

I don't think anything is wrong

The new (ish) line of AMD processors work on a module system, where each module has 2 logical cores which contain separate integer clusters and 128bit floating point clusters, however the floating point clusters can fuse to create one 256bit floating point unit. Also the two cores in a module share the same early fetch and decode.

So what you are seeing is the representation of 4 modules making 8 cores.
