Hey guys

So recently i built a PC for my girlfriend, nothing special but it gets the job done. Anyway i moved it from the kitchen table (its original home) due to it being christmas and the family was round for dinner. I should add the audio was working fine before i moved it. Anyway i moved it back into the kitchen into the exact same spot as before and now i have this horrible problem. If there is a jack plugged into the green port in the back of the PC then as soon as i hit the power button i get a squealing ringing sound constantly through the speakers. When i login to windows under the playback devices it looks like this.

Ive tried plugging the speakers into every other port on the PC to no avail, i also tried the speakers that are built into the monitor and a pair of earphones but the same issue. I tried installing the AC97 realtek audio drivers (after much arsing about with the warnings about the driver not having a certificate) but still no joy, does anyone have any idea what is wrong ?

Thanks in advance

Synth

I'm sorry I actually have no idea. I would suggest maybe checking for a short on the board or something stuck in the port.

You could rule out software by downloading a Linux live CD and running that and seeing if the sounds works under Linux.

Wll at least you have narrowed it down. Before you re-install I would just suggest removing all the audio software, going into device manager and uninstalling the audio device then reboot and let windows reinstall it with the standard audio drivers and see if that works.
