Samsung 830 Pro SSD won't appear anywhere

I have recently received a new Samsung 830 Pro SSD for Christmas, which came bundled with the transfer kit, for use in my Medion Erazer X6811. I am running Windows 8.1 x64 bit.
I have been using Samsung's Data Migration Software http:// to clone my primary HDD including windows files.
This all appears to run successfully, so I shutdown, disconnect my SSD from the USB transfer cable and connect it to a port in my laptop. Then when I boot up it appears nowhere. Not in BIOS, nor device manager, nor my computer.
Could someone please give a clue as to what the problem is, or perhaps an alternate method of cloning my original HDD to my SSD.
All help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you everyone for your responses, I have found the answer.
To all of those with a Medion Erazer x6811, with BIOS MSI E16F1IM7.108, read this:

Basically, this laptop's BIOS is outdated to the extent it doesn't know how to handle SSDs, and so follow Ninjardins guide to flashing the BIOS with his modifications and your all set. He is incredible, no idea how he knew how to modify the BIOS, but his solution has worked for me and it seems everyone else on that forum.

Thanks again to everyone!

ACHI is enabled, and I should also draw attention to the fact that both SATA ports in my computer work, as I can remove the SSD, refit either of my two HDDs (I have a solely data HDD) and both windows and BIOS both recognise that they're there.

Thanks for the reply. As it is a laptop, there are two SATA ports in my computer, (three if you count the CD/DVD drive), both of which are functional as they both work with my older 2 HDDs, the primary of which I am attempting to replace. The USB cable that connects to the SSD to allow the Samsung Data Migration Software to work seems to be fully functional, and when the SSD is connected via that I can see it everywhere I expect to: my computer; device manager (and on BIOS it gives me the options 'USB Data').
However when I've completed the data migration, and I install it into one of my laptop's ports it no longer is picked up anywhere?
This is most curious...

the 830 is compatible with 8.1 as I have them both on my livingroom htpc.

For your laptop make sure the sata connector on the ssd is actually going into the receptacle on the laptop. I've noticed some sit a tiny bit lower and misses the mark just enough so that the male slides over/under the female connector and yet is tight enough to feel like it went it. In reality its just the pressure of the male sata port on the exterior housing of the female receptacle.
