Just built a computer for my son using a 250GB SSD and 500GB HDD. We want to keep some games on the SSD but as it stands we have two of his Steam games on the SSD and the Steamapps folder is already 23GB. Granted we were not planning to put a lot of games on the SSD but I would have thought two games would be much less space than this. Is there a way to keep the games on there now but reduce this file size?

Solution
The folder size is the size of the games. Yes, they can be quite large.

You're in luck, though. You can very easily move the Steam data over to the 500GB drive.

You can also, within the Steam client, designate multiple locations for games to be installed.
From the menu:
Steam-Settings-Steam Library Folders-Add Library Folder

Also, see this tutorial on how to manage other stuff on that SSD:

No, you cannot keep the files on the SSD and reduce the file size. Does not work like that. What I suggest is telling your friend to keep the games he plays the most on the SSD and the others on the HDD. Steam now asks what drive to store the games on when installing, so just tell him if he wants to keep room on his SSD he will have to pick the d: drive(or whatever letter is designated).

Thanks. I initially set up a second game library on the HDD and instructed him to load most games, if not all, on the HDD. Then I discovered Steam Mover which although seems to allow me to move them back and forth, the program only seems to recognize the games if loaded to the SSD first (which is the C: drive) and then use Steam Mover to move them to the HDD. I found games initially placed in the HDD (which for me is the E: drive) are not recognized in Steam Mover. No biggie since he has about 40+ games but has only installed 3-4 of them. My concern was I expected to easily place 8-10 games on the SSD but it does not appear to be the case.
