Building a new pc & am trying to install the radeon 7870 graphics card. It has a 6 pin & 8 pin connections. The 8 pin connects to psu ok with supplied psu cable.....the additional lead has the block splitting into 6 & 2 so can connect 6 pin into graphics card but the other end of lead has a 8 block..I plug also into psu but card sends no signal to monitor. If I disconnect GC then I can get a signal.

Is he issue with the 6 pin in GC but 8 pin in psu??

Take the GPU out, go into the BIOS and set the default display to GPU not onboard graphics. Reinstall GPU and you should be fine.
I would think that the problem is not the power connectors.

The extra two pins are just additional Ground wires, makes no difference to the wiring inside the PSU.

Whatever your issue is, its not power delivery.
