I brought a computer and want to upgrade the graphics card any suggestions on what to get and how to do it.

These are my specs:

Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: XPS 8500
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3350P CPU @ 3.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.1GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Grapics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 620

It will depend on your case cooling option. If your case has 2/3 intake/exhaust fan then there is nothing to worry about. The card can handle 90/95 C when gaming, still will last for years. And generally this cards don't generate much heat, in idle they will be around 30/35 C.
