Sapphire radeon hd 7950 and sapphire R9 280x crossfire?

I've recently heard that it is possible to crossfire an AMD Radeon HD 7950 and an AMD R9 280x is this true? If so are there any issues? Also my friend suggested that for the price, I get 2 gtx 760's.

The powersupply is not a problem. I have been looking forward to crossfiring for a long time now and again I was wondering if the 7950 would work with the 280x. also would I be better off with two gtx 760's?
