hello im just now testing out my new to me rig its an asus cross hair with a 980a/780a sli gpu on board , and at the moment i have 2 9800gt card with the sli bridge active ,
i have a 8800Gtx also im trying to get 2 pc up to the full potential with what i have so i was wondering do the cards have to match ? or can i combo any of the available sli gpus ? like it appears i can can sli the on board to my 9800gt ? but can i combine the 8800gtx and 9800gt on the sli and use the on-board n-force 9801/780a as the third sli ? im not understanding the proper use of this and i bought a board based on using sli technology

Solution
With SLI, you're required to use two identical model numbered graphic cards. i.e. two 9800GTs. You cannot use a 9800GT and an 8800GTX in SLI. Also, in most cases, on-board graphics are often disabled when a discrete graphics card is installed. You cannot use the on-board graphics in any type of SLI configuration.

ok ! so 9800gt and 8800gtx sli is out ! but it dose allow me to use the 9800gt and 9800gt in sli and then i it gives me an option ! to use the on board and the physX gpu ,... is that a waste of time also or last option here can i use the the 8800gtx as the physX and use the 9800gt as the main card and leave the sli mode off ? note i due understand that the sli 9800gt pair is the way to go

just wondering if one of these combinations would be better compared to just of 9800gt card in use.

reason
so i can put a 9800gt in my other pc as the other one does not care for that 8800gtx is has artifacts on the screen, only on the asus m2n sli mother board but works fine in this one the asus cross hair not sue why ? both 9800 also work fine in either mobo :/ ,,...

yeah i know its old but im broke lol,,, and trying to use these for 3d Art work and programing 3d models in cam software for cnc machining so its hard on the memory and the Physx possessor but not unholy on the rendering and performance , and this beats my last rig that could not handle it it was a gforce 7800 on a A8n with a 64 bit 2.8ghz amd , with a maxed out ram of 2 gigs ,.... so this is my upgrade , :( ... so no oping on that last post ?
