Wheres the best spot to put the hard drive?

Solution
doesnt really matter too much. normally i put it at the top (if using the first slot right under the cd/dvd cage or the bottom (if using the slot at the very bottom of the case to maximize airflow into the case while still giving a bit of airflow around the hdd. maximum drive cooling would be centered however its not really needed.

in short... just about anything will work. centered = better hddcooling but messes with the case airflow a bit, off center = less hdd cooling and better case airflow. either of them is acceptable.

I split mine away from the fans just so I dont disrupt airflow. If you have a reasonably decent case you shouldnt have to worry at all about your HDD overheating at least not nowadays anyway. If however you keep your PC in a little tight cubbyhole in your desk, it might be a different story =)

depends on case airflow and what kind of hard drive.

standard 7200.1 drives typically get warm but not hot which is why they need some airflow but not maximum. 10k raptors need maximum airflow as they get really hot. 5400 drives generate less heat than 7200's . ssd drives dont generate much heat at all

if you have two front intake fans... you could always just stick the hdd(s) in front of the lower one and keep the upper one clear for straight through airflow. best of both worlds (if you have two front fans)
