I have a windows vista ultimate disk, but when I try to perform a fresh install I get an error, I read up on the error and was told it is an issue with the disk getting info to the system so putting it on a USB would fix it. But I have no idea how to put my windows vista disk install onto my 8gb USB ?

Well Windows 7 is the 'same' as Vista, but works alot better by all reviews, rating, etc. just to let you know. Win8 UI change I can agree on that isn't workable for desktop. But just so you know also that Vista supported ended a while ago, so alot of things may not 'work' properly on Vista, as compared to 7 (which has many more changes to the code, to include IE11) that programs (software) is based on. Something to consider.

Builders Edition of Win7 is only $59 or so according to PickParts. Might want to shoot for that, just suggesting is all.
Should try GOOGLE next time. Simple google of Install Windows on USB Drive turns up alot of pages :
https://www.google.com/search?q=vista+install+usb+drive&oq=Vista+install+USB&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.6667j0j1&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8

UHm may I ask why your using Vista? It has no support, is out dated, and the CEO of Microsoft has finally admitted was a 'MISTAKE'. If you have that old of a PC you should get a new one, they are EXTREMELY Cheap, like a i3 Core Desktop (or even laptop) at Walmart is $249, even comes with a LCD screen free. Considering a new copy of Windows 8 runs about $179, your getting alot 'free' for the extra $70.

cleaned up the disk about and install appears to be okay, I'm using vista because I'm used to it and have not had issues with it since I got it, plus it saves me 150$ for a new OS.
BTW my pc is not outdated:
8-core fx-8320
2x4gb ram, Hyper X
gtx650ti 2gb gpu
m5a97 r2.0 mobo
2 additional air coolers
1TB HDD
1 DVD disk drive
