I'm looking to speed up my pc by installing a SSD. I have looked through forums for answers but I thought it would be best to outline my problem and get answers specific to me! I have a cheap 100gb SSD that I bought a few weeks ago that I am yet to install - 100GB Cheap SSD. I think the best way to speed my pc up would be to put the OS (windows 7) onto the SSD but I am not sure about how to do this.

I use my PC for gaming and music primarily (I have a lot of music stored on it aswell as more than 50 games on steam). My 500GB hard disk drive is like 95% full so I kind of need to add another (again not too sure how to do this) or my other option, is to buy a larger SSD. I've been looking at this 480GB SSD as a possibility - 480GB SSD

I'm pretty much asking for your help on how to go about putting my OS onto an SSD, improving my pc's performance, and what other stuff I should put on to an SSD. Also looking for advice on whether I should buy the 480GB SSD or any other one you recommend - is it possible to have a HDD and two different SSDs? I don't know too much about storage devices if I'm honest.

Thanks for any help you can offer me, if you have any questions about my pc then feel free to ask.

Your existing copy of Windows should re-install to the exact same motherboard without problems, no matter what disk you use.
I'd looks for a Samsung 840 EVO or Pro or a drive from Intel, Crucial, perhaps Mushkin or Plextor; over anything from OCZ. Depending on how much you want to spend, 240GB-256GB is probably sufficient for your OS and lots of programs.
What I would do is temporarily remove your HDD and install your SSD (or a new one; I personally would not trust a refurbished OCZ Vertex II). Install Windows 7 onto the SSD. Load your programs, including the Steam client (but not Steam games; they'll stay on the HDD). Shut down and re-install your HDD, but make sure the SSD remains the boot device. You'll need to point Steam to the HDD for its library. Once you've done that, you can remove the Windows directory structure and the Program Files and Program Files (X86) directories (except any needed by Steam) from the HDD to free up space on it.

You should install Windows on the SSD, not just copy/paste it. And then, install applications that you need to run faster on the SSD, such as games. Programs that don't need to run faster, like Office, can stay on the HDD.

Install windows using the disk I initially used? Will that work or will I need to buy a new copy? What are your opinions on the 480gb SSD? Seeing as you wouldn't trust the refurbished one I have, would I still be able to use that as storge if I bought another ssd - ie have 2 ssds and my current hard drive

Could you maybe recommend an SSD for me to put my OS on? I don't really know too much about them and therefore can't compare them lol

Thanks for your help, bought the 840 EVO. Will I still be able to use the OCZ one and if so what would you recommend using it for?

I have 200GB of steam games but I'll put the ones I play most often on it. I'm also going to be buying BF4, would you recommend putting that on the evo ssd or just my standard hdd?
