A few days ago I started to experience a problem where my mouse keeps cutting out for 2-3 seconds at a time and then comes back on.

It is impossible to play video games because of this and very difficult to browse/use the internet.

It's not a problem with my mouse because I plugged in a different mouse I have and it does the exact same thing.

Is this a software or hardware problem?

Solution
Then try to uninstall USB root hubs under Device Manager, then restart PC, the drivers will auto load on startup, see if it helps. Else I am afraid there is something wrong with the ports.

Hi guys. I had a mouse and keyboard that kept cutting out for a few seconds then back in, with the disconnect/connect tones each time. I tried a few suggestions in this thread, nothing worked.

Finally I came across this freeware utility for managing USB devices: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

It is self-explanatory to use. Turns out I had quite a few USB devices installed, having plugged them in at different times during the life of my PC. Uninstalled all the ones I don't use regularly and the problem disappeared.

Didn't want to re resurrect an old thread but Krispy_1 you're the man! I have a Razer Blackwidow and Naga, and the Naga had been cutting out as described in this post for maybe a year and a half.

The problem was when I went into device manager, each one has about 20/30 different drivers installed, and it was hard to tell which ones were right, this program made it outstandingly easy and it solved my problem completely!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. Turns out I had the same problem with my Logitech G403 wireless mouse which was super annoying. Luckily it was a quick fix when I realized that it only happened when my Western Digital My Book was plugged into the adjacent USB 3.0 port. Not sure if it's a motherboard issue but when I moved the external hard drive to another port the mouse was fine. Or even just unplugging the external drive. So I moved the Logitech Unifying receiver to another USB 3.0 port on my Gigagbyte Z250 motherboard.
