MSI 760GM E23 FX Motherboard Boot crash

Hi guys-
I have an MSI 760 GM FX Motherboard.I also have a Edimax EW-7811UN Wireless LAN Adapter. I have recently built a PC and when I insert the wireless USB into a usb port the BIOS crashes and delays the boot sequence. Eventually, it will boot into the desktop in Windows 7. When I remove the dongle, nothing happens and the boot sequence goes according to plan. Can you help me please?
Many thanks

Your BIOS probably thinks the dongle is a USB pen drive, a device which is often used to boot from. Go into BIOS Setup and remove USB from the list of boot devices.
  2. I've set my CMOS Setup Utility BIOS not to boot from any other devices apart form the SSD and CD ROM. I'm still having problems. Could it be that BIOS thinks here's something on the dongle that it can boot from?
  3. "Could it be that BIOS thinks here's something on the dongle that it can boot from?"

That's what I was referring to in my first reply, but since you've removed USB from the boot devices list, that should no longer be the reason for your problem, unless you forgot to "Save & Exit" after you changed the boot device list?

All I can say is I never had that problem when I had a wireless dongle. I just left it plugged in all the time whether the laptop was on or off, and I never had to mess with the BIOS settings.

As it's a PC, have you considered buying a wireless PCI card instead of using the USB one?
  4. Well, I still have that problem and I never had it on my old XP machine. I was thinking of buying a PCI Internet cardbut generally speaking, how much are they? Maybe MSI is to blame on the BIOS issue....

That's exactly what I suggested -- do you even read my posts?

Cost around £20 max (GBP): http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-single-band-n150-pci-card-wireless-adapter-n65hh
  6. Well, yes! You were asking me. Thanks very much but I don't need help any more.
