Hello all. I have a Lenovo Y560 with i7,5730,4gb RAM,500HDD.

The past week or so it has been blue screening on start up with the file atikmdag.sys at the bottom. After 3 or 4 restarts, I would be able to boot up fully and have no problems.

Today when I tried to start up again, nothing happened after windows screen. Just a black screen. I booted into safe mode and uninstalled the GPU drivers and got windows to load. I re installed new drivers and restarted and once again black screen. I think it has something to do with the drivers but im not sure.

My friend said that my GPU is bad is this the case? Fortunately I just purchased a whole new pc the day before christmas and the parts will arrive the day after new years. So im not compelety fucked

well, it is a problem with the gpu

could be hardware or software related

id screw around with drivers before jumping to the conclusion that the gpu is bad

fresh install of the operating system, brand new drivers. if that fails, try using the previous versions of drivers. start at the 2nd latest one and work your way backwards.

i suggest a fresh install because installing drivers over drivers, can (but usually doesnt) cause conflicts

Hi, thanks for the advice. Where could I find the older drivers? Also, I haven't updated the drivers in a few months and this problem started about a week or so ago

for me, its here

thats for win8x64 though. you may need to find what you need

if you arent on the most current drivers, thats the first thing you should do. update your graphic drivers and hope that helps.

if it doesnt, fresh install, try the new drivers again

if it still doesnt, fresh install, try previous drivers

For noobies out there who just got a mew laptop from Staples, BB, etc. and didn't come with an install disc..you have to burn it yourself using the recovery disc software built in. Should be one of the first things you do when getting the laptop.
