My motherboard wants an 8 pin connection from the power supply, but only one 4-4 connection from the PSU fits. Is this okay?

The one 4 pin connection from the psu fits and latches into place, but neither the 6-2 or the second 4 pin connector fit into the socket. Is this okay or will I need to buy a 4-4 to 8 pin adapter?

it depends on if the 4+4 is the right connector. Refer to your motherboard manual to verify. If it is the right connector, then yes, both halves will go/snap together (they should be on the same PSU cable) to fit and lock into the motherboard 8-pin connector.
