Would an A10-5800K bottleneck a GTX 660 badly? If so, 6 core or 8 core vishera and mobo?

Anybody here have experience? It's for my bro's build. He's thinking of getting a GTX 660, I had also looked at the new r9 270x which is basically a 7870ghz edition.

If it would bottleneck it, would the cheapish 6 core Piledriver fx 6300 be good? He's in love with the idea of having an 8 core like the 8320 or 8350 though.

And if going the 6/8 core FX route, would a 970 mobo suffice? Not really interested in SLI/Crossfire at all....He shares the same thought as I do that I'd rather just have a single strong gpu rather than 2 weaker ones.

Back to the subject on the A10-5800K itself, the FM2 socket Athlons I've seen posted on various sites for new builds are basically the 5800k without the integrated gpu. The a10-5800k is fine for playing stuff on 720p on low with no AA,etc (bleh), but my bro finally wants to step up to something that can comfortably play games on at least high on 1080p, he's not worried about 60fps constantly though, he's not nit-picky like that

On the a10-5800k and these "new" Athlons AFAIK they're completely missing L3 cache, is that a huge hindrance in demanding games at 1080p like BF4 multiplayer? That's mostly what I want to find him a decent cpu on a budget for.

And please nobody knocking AMD...I'm trying to do this on a budget and I played BF3 on his pc on low 720p metro and it played fine although looking bad graphic wise.

Thx for any help, I love discussing components

That may be true, but in relation to the 660, the 270x/7870ghz will be even better. If there is no difference (above 60fps) then the card will just be able to play at higher settings, or more games in the future. It's also about the same price.

Yes, an A10 would completely bottleneck a 660. The point of an APU is that you don't need a dedicated graphics card, you just use the (Relatively good) integrated. I would recommend at least an FX-8320.

I'm not sure that I agree that a a10-5800k would bottleneck a GTX660 like crazy. A GTX660 is a mid range card. The 5800k has enough horsepower to deal with a GTX660. It's not as if you are hooking up a 780Ti to your 5800k. If you are able to find that GTX660 for a good price that's fine with the your 5800k. BF3 will play just fine with a GTX660 you will need to tone down the settings a little bit in Metro Last Light but should still have pretty stellar settings. And a R9 270X is also a good card. I saw OC3D.net rank it as a pretty good value.

The 5800k wouldn't be a major bottleneck, I wouldn't worry about it TOO much. As for upgrading the CPU, a 6300 will be just fine, and go with the 7870/270 over the gtx 660. They give better performance and you don't need the 8-core.

At this point I'd go with in the mid range market a 270x or GTX760.
