Hi,

I've read through most of the triple monitor posts most of which are concerned with resolution and gaming. I built a basic rig for business use and need to buy a video card that can run 3 monitors; any suggestions??

- ASUS P8Z77-M
- Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz
- 8 GB Ram
- WD VelociRaptor 300 GB Workstation Hard Drive

Thanks

I'm guessing you need it for something like daytrading or financial analysis, hence the i5 CPU?
If you don't plan to do any gaming, any video card with the right amount of connectors will do just fine.

For example, something like an AMD 7770 will work and can be had for $80-100 or so. It's got 2 DVI ports, HDMI and DisplayPort. Typical setup for 3 monitors would be something like 2x DVI and 1 via HDMI -> DVI connector or via DisplayPort.

Not all of them have the same number of connectors, but this XFX card does and costs $80 after an MIR.

The motherboard only has HDMI, DVI and VGA. While possible, I don't recommend using VGA these days as it's an analog signal, so the quality suffers significantly (and your eyes will hurt too). It's possible to use a DVI splitter, but they cost about the same as a new video card will since they have electronics inside them and aren't just a simple Y-splitter.

Thanks for the response!

I need it to concurrently monitor 20 network video cams, a VOIP phone system, run management software, run apps like quickbooks, Photoshop, office suite, acrobat pro and multiple browser windows.

Yeah, go for an AMD 7770, in part to minimize the load on your RAM (integrated graphics uses RAM as video memory) so you don't bottleneck performance considering how much stuff you have running. I highly don't recommend using VGA, and a DVI splitter will cost you the same as a new video card.
