I recently updated my BIOS and before that, when I computer was powered on, it would actually tell that "all four cores are activated!" Since then, it has not shown up and I went into the task manager and it tells me, "2 cores and 4 Logical Cores" My friend says that it has been compressed down to only 2 cores and everything is fine. However, I am getting some performance issues during gaming and especially while recording.
CPU: AMD FX-4300 quad core @ 3.8Ghz
MOBO: m5a 78l-m lx plus

Is it fine? Or is it only running 2 cores. If so, how can I get it back to 4?

EDIT: I did re install Windows 8.1 last Friday (12/20/13) (Just hours before updating BIOS)

I have an 8350 and it tells me 4 cores 8 logical processors(it's an 8 core) on Windows 8.1...it's normal.
Recording on a 4300 isn't ideal so you will get frame drops...chances are your CPU is just fine.

A way to tell is to open the resource monitor(blue link at the bottom of the task manager) and see how many threads are running.
