Did the lower end Corsair CX series model supplies only recently receive the "80+ bronze" treatment or something? Just wondering cause I was reading about my CX600 to learn a little more about it, and it turns out the one I was reading about was telling me it wasnt 80 plus anything, when the one in my PC is without a doubt 80+ bronze. Says on the box and all. I wouldnt have initially ordered it not for that fact. When trying to research I cant find much on the question. I know someone here knows. : D

Solution
Corsair is up to version 3 of the CX series.
The original series was not 80 plus rated (not very efficient)
V2 was 80 plus rated.
V3 is 80 plus Bronze rated.

thanks man, but i paid 25 bucks for my CX600 and it suits my build well and i couldnt be happier with it. ive read 10 good reviews for every 1 bad review on it online. when i run out of upgrades that i want to do first, i shall replace it, though. Likely for a seasonic or XFX as Ive heard you cant beat them.

The CX series are not of the same quality as Seasonic, but they are decent for the price.
Here is an article showing the interior of these newer 80 plus bronze units (for the CX600M specifically):

The reality is that these CX series units are a big improvement on no name power supplies. I saw another forum article just today on someone who has bought a C.I.T. supply. These are the sort of garbage we should be steering people away from.

I usually recommend Seasonic as a first preference, Antec HCG series as a next choice and Corsair CX series as a budget option. Do you have other suggestions for units in the same price band as each of these with better quality?

I think my CX600 V3 handles my single GPU system pretty well, actually. i was using a logysis PSU that came WITH a logisys case that was only 30 bucks for the whole unit (case + psu), so i grabbed the CX 600 when it was $60 bucks on new egg pus a $10 off promo plus a $20 rebate. obviously theres no difference like there would be going from HDD to SSD, or no GPU to a GPU, but theres definitely a sense of security that comes with it. id much rather have one of those seasonic or XFXs though :X

*edit, or even one of those even higher quality Corsairs. I tend to stick to Corsair whenever possible. Basically any part they make I have them for a brand in my rig.

I have always liked Corsair.
I have a Corsair TX 650 V1 power supply, which is actually manufactured by Seasonic.
By the time I was building a PC for a friend they had stopped making these and V2 was from another company.
For that build I chose an Antec HCG 620W, again manufactured by Seasonic.
The Antec HCG is not as quiet as the Corsair TX, but it is not loud.
Both have been running great for a few years now.

With power supplies, it often pays to check who actually manufactures the unit.

I actually use a cx600, after many pals running gaming rigs (Q6600's etc with big gpu's like gtx260's) for years with no problems. I do actually trust corsairs hype to some extent. I appreciate the capacitors are not the best, but the u.k. is in a cold snap for a few years. I have never planned to pull more than 350 max off my 600
anyway, and I have not heard of a cx blowing motherboards etc on failure.
Praps I am mistaken.
I am sure if anybody could prove otherwise, corsair would sort it out cos that just seems to be what they are about. Keep me informed, everyone.
