crossfired 7870 vs gtx 770

Solution
If you have a 2nd PCIe X16 slot that is at least X8 bandwidth*, the 2 x HD 7870s will be faster. But if you go the CF route, be sure to use the newest beta driver with Frame Pacing. I tested a pair of 7870 OC cards in my system in my sig. Really out performed my 2 x GTX 660 OC cards.

On the other hand, if you go with the single GTX 770, you could always go SLI in the future (if your MB does SLI)

* If the 2nd slot is only X4, go with the single GTX 770.

thanks, tried the crossfire route, horrible mistake, nothing but problems. Spend hours/days drivers unistaled games, ect. Sold the one new card, looking into 770 or 780 as I type.

Sorry to hear of your CF woes. I have been switching between CF and SLI for more years than I care to count. I've never had an issue with either one. But I can see how one bad experience can sour a person on that.

thanks, I really wanted it to work, as two 7870 would be better off than the 770-780 ive been now torn about. But like I said, uninstalled drivers, reinstalled, checked bios, forced update again to bios, checked every catalyst setting, uninstalled reinstalled, just done everything I can think of over and over again. and would end up fine, but when id game itd force close, freeze up, or the right half the screen would just go blackish digital type, or the entire screen would be black. But just horrible experience and yes its left a real sour taste for wanting to do it ever again.

So now its back to the motto, "get the best single card you can afford", upgrade when the upgraded version is double the performance of yours, and within a cost/performance realm.
