Hello and thanks for reading, a friend of mine bought a 4gb DDR3 ram memory to use along his 2gb stick, the memory of 4gb is ADATA ddr3 1333 (9) 4GX8 U-DIMM 10242459 ADATA pc3 10600
but the motherboard won't boot with it, the motherboard is an asrock v41m-vs3 r2.0, he is currently using a core2duo e8200 2.6ghz 1333fsb. the ram also won't boot in another friend's computer either, the weird thing is that the other friend has the very same ram memory ADATA ddr3 1333 (9) 4GX16 U-DIMM 10242459 ADATA pc3 10600 (this one did worked in both pcs) with the only difference that is 4gx16 rather than 4gx8. it is also visible that the 4gx16 has 8 black chips in both sides while the 4gx8 has 8 chips in only one side. if this is important, what is the difference between them? if it is relevant, is there a way to make it work in the motherboard of is it a motherboard problem itself? thanks in advance.

Solution
Try exchanging it, if it won't even post in either mobo, it's probably bad, I'd also look for a different brand, Adata isn't the best, and these are two different style sticks, should never have the same model number as you state one is single sided the other double sided
the ram is the same spec but there two different lots and two different set of ram chips on the ram. try seeing if there a bios update for your friend mb. the newer bios may fix the ram issue. if not see if the ram vendor can swap the dimm or replace it with another brand.

I suggested the bios update, but would you mind explaining what do you mean with different lots? I also understand there is 8x512mb chips in the 4gx8 ram and 16x256 in the 4gx16 ram.

So is there no way to make it work at all?
