system specs:

CPU: amd fx 8350
Cooler Zalman lq-310 liquid cooler
Motherboard: asrock extreme 3 970 r2.0
Ram: 2x4 gskill F3-2133C10D-8GXM 2133 mhz - latency 9 11 11 29 slots 1 and 3 dual channel
GPU: Asus r9 270x 2gb
Sound card: Sound Blaster Z
HDD: 1tb Seagate 7200 rpm
PSU: coolmaster extreme 2 725w

On performance test my ram is close to performance as that of ddr2. I notice that sometimes when opening new programs that my hdd cuts out and i have to wait a bit for the program to open. Could my ram be causing the hdd cut out? Is this ram performance normal? Should i return the ram and get one with lower latency such as 9 9 9 24 @ 1866. System #5 is amd 8150 and it performs better in memory than mine does and its on stock frequency and latency, not overclocked.

Solution

Then I recommend to take a look at the QVL! and pick a good brand4GB 2x4GB 1866mhz dual channel kit from Corsair, Kingstone, Crucial, G.skill,etc.. listed on there.

are you sure they are really running at nominal speeds(2133mhz) ?, cause they seem to be working at 1333mhz speeds performance.
Related to brand, G.Skill is one of the best RAM OEM out there.
So watch your bios settings, or run some software like AIDA64 to see what speed they are really working at. ( latency option in performance section).
Also a FX-8150 is not better in any way than your FX-8350

Yes they are running at 2133 MHz according to my bios and AIDA 64. If my ram was really running at 1333 MHz than the threaded performance would we below the reference systems. So should i get new ram sticks? Does anyone have any recommendations on good performing ram? My PC performs better in all other benchmarks except memory.

Maybe you have the way of testing another pair of RAM sticks on your mobo(from a friend for instance), or testing your memories on another PC for a diagnostic before you make a decition of getting others.

well i tried another set of ram form my old computer ddr3 1333mhz G.SKILL F3-10666CL9D-16GBXL latency 9 9 9 24 and it yielded close to the same result with a score of 1290 mind you the latency score was higher than my current set with a score of 79.9 vs 59.1. I have tried switching slots but it does not affect anything.

So what would be a good dual channel set to put in my system?

It would be greatly appreciated if someone who has a similar motherboard or experience with amd products could put their input on this.

Thanks for your help Juan, but it appears that the ram i got does not go well with my system.

Ok well i tested the ram in my old computer with a Pentium g620, memory downclocked to 1066 as that the limit with the processor. The ram scored 25 points lower than my old 1333 mhz gskill 8gbx2. I find it hard to believe that it could be my mobo because all other component benchmarks perform exceptionally well. If it is my mobo how can i test the memory controller?

This mother board is fairly new as it was manufactured in October of 2013. There is no bios update for this board on the as rock website.

Right now I am running memtest to see if there is any errors. So far 1hr and 48 minutes in, there are no errors. I am going to run it all night to see if there is anything wrong, but i think that this ram set is incompatible with my motherboard

Then I recommend to take a look at the QVL! and pick a good brand4GB 2x4GB 1866mhz dual channel kit from Corsair, Kingstone, Crucial, G.skill,etc.. listed on there.
