I currently have 6 gigs of DDR3 RAM @1066. Would it be prudent to add 3 more sticks with 2 gigs each on my motherboard? Or, would it be better to replace the RAM all together, and get faster sticks?
That motherboard should handle 1600 memory without problems. 1066/1333 officially if populating all dimms, 1600(OC) Possibly 1866(OC) as well, don't remember. But if wanting faster than 1333 would keep it strictly to x3 memory not to strain the northbridge and avoid problems.
I replaced my 3x 2GB 1600 1.65v memory for 3x 4GB 1600 Vengeance 1.5v ram and is running pretty sweet on my x58.
OC your 920 to 4ghz at 200 x 20 starting with 1.25 vcore with some Corsair 1600 ram... 3 sticks of 4GB = 12 GB Total or 8GB = 24 GB Total should be fine. Make sure you have a good CPU cooler like EVOII or something... Check ebay... Ive had 2 evga (FTW3 and SLI 3) boards with full ram slots and it sucked.
