so i have i7 980x extreme edition and i started to have some problems with my motherboard .. so now i was looking for a new mobo but i couldn't find many options for 1366 socket, and some of them are used or discontinued .. now im debiting if i should go with a new CPU i7-4930K 2011- socket and just go for the newest mobo or should i keep my 980x CPU and go for older mobo ?

Solution
Many non-HEDT i7 chips from Ivy Bridge through Haswell will be able to deliver the same or better performance than your X 980. It might be worth it to upgrade the CPU just to have something more recent.

I've been looking into this extensively, I have an i7-930 system. From what I've found unless you have applications that use ALL six (6) cores, an i7-4770K will match or beat an i7-4960X.......

If your gaming, your Not using all six (6) cores........

The other factor(s) are I/O the out-of-date x79 chipset doesn't support USB 3.0 and only limited SATA 3.0 ports.

I'd wait for Haswell-E and x99 chipset in 3rd quarter of 2014 .... OR, go for a 4770k now....
