for that price, the core i5 is better.

the fx 6300 is good too, but the core i5 usually hovers around $180+ territory.

edit: just searched the case. for that case, the core i5 is a better fit.
here's a mini roundup of z77 mini itx motherboards (unless you've selected one already)
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mini-itx-z77-motherboard,3389.html
some of these aren't exactly budget, so keep that in mind.
there other mini itx mobos, may be anandtech, but they don't review in groups.

^^ okay you two, find me an am3+ mini itx motherboard, then re-calculate the value.
unless OP wants to change the case.

edit:mad:OP: looks like the offer's back up. i dunno wth is going on with newegg. if you're gonna buy, you gotta make sure you're getting that deal.

they are messing with me haha the price is back down to $159 -- you all saw!

oh and to answer and continue on this thing I don't plan to oc only because I don't know how and I don't want to burn out the CPU especially since I don't know what I am doing with that

do any of you know if this would be compatible with a Mini Itx motherboard since I am planning on using it in a coolermaster elite 130. I imagine it is because from what I have read the only thing the the CM 130 needs in parts that is different from a regular mid tower or full tower is a smaller motherboard so I am assuming this CPU should fit perfect.

But I am assuming...

Haha, you're saying it now... But, you might want to do that in future.

Anyway, as de5_Roy pointed out, for the case you have, i5 3330 must be your choice.

yea I just made sense of what he said haha took me a minute....yea.... kinda slow tonight I am at work sue me! lol

I appreciate the responses guys I really do. The final question is this.... Do you think this is the best CPU for the Price range for moderate gaming and multitasking?

Sorry just trying to cover all my bases pretty much this is probably gonna be a slow build

well that's a little worry some at least to me... I know Newegg is a reputable name but I just saw their return policy on CPU's and they don't do refunds but will exchange..

the only reason I am worried about this is because I saw some comments that the CPU was DOA so I could obviously return it but has anyone had any serious issues with em?

in my opinion, yes. as long as that offer stands, and for your case.

overall, this is one of the best deals right now if you can access a microcenter:

The CPU is quite powerful. Just make sure you couple it up with a good GPU, for gaming, as GPU matters a lot in gaming.
The DOA can happen in case of any CPU. Only the person who have gone through this can comment on it.

Its performance can be compared to Sandy Bridge i5 2400, which is a great CPU. So, you can observe the i5 2400 reviews, to get an idea of its performance.

I just realized what you all were saying about a Microcenter, didn't know it was a actual place to go to haha well no, I am in Miami Fl I just checked the Link thanks for that de5_roy.

Yea I wasn't expecting to go up this high for a CPU honestly but all in all you get what you pay for and I don't want to get anything too cheap either.

oh you can go cheaper. like "amd athlon x4 750k+ a55/a75/85x/a88x mini itx motherboard" cheaper. but gaming performance will go down accordingly. but top amd apus like a10 6800k (the one with the higest clockrate) costs around $140. for $20 more, you get a cpus with superior gaming performance and lower power use because of that newegg offer.

damn you guys are really helpful ~

I don't think ill go cheaper just gonna take me like 2-3 months to get everything I want, if I think about it. Maybe less.

I definitely intend on getting a Good GPU I can research that since I know a little (well very little about GPU's) but I am kind of struggling on the Mini Itx Motherboards..... I was thinking an Asus motherboard since they make awesome hardware but I know nothing of which ones are better than others. I think ill ask another question when ready but can anyone shed a little insight on what to look for "Quick Tips" if you will about mini itx motherboards and gpu's? Price point? I don't want to build a 1000 dollar gaming rig lol I think the most I really wanna go is maybe 400 or even 500 is kinda pushing it but that all gets to be hardware, I have software, I have my mouse, keyboard and ill plug the rig into my tv with the hdmi cord so don't need a monitor.

Definitely sticking to the i5 based on everything im reading though

already posted a z77 mini itx motherboard roundup in one of my earlier posts. you might find even cheaper h61 and h77 motherboards if you look.

as for mini itx gpus... there are only two mini itx 'friendly' high end gfx card i know of, and one of them seems to be unavailable on newegg. so here's the other one:
msi gtx 760 mini $255
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127772
however, your case can take regular sized gfx card. check your case dimensions for clearance measurements.
$500 for cpu, mobo, case, ram, psu, gfx card is too low (if you're buying the gfx card now). the cpu and gfx card together take away over $400 from your budget.
asus p8z77i deluxe is down to $160, $130 after rebate.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131840
other mini itx boards
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%2050001314%2050001315%2050001944%20600009028%20600093976&IsNodeId=1&name=ASRock
for reference, you can check these builds from q2 mini itx sbm marathon:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mini-itx-do-it-yourself-game-console,3531.html

er.. you can't mount a cpu on it. it already has a celeron cpu soldered on it. the price is for the whole cpu+ mobo. it is basically a laptop-ish motherboard for small form factor desktops.
