Need to build a 6 monitor system on a budget

What would be the cheapest way to build a proper 6 monitor system which would be primarily used for 2D work.

I have found a few mobo's for around $120 or so which support 3-4 PCI-E slots (16x-4x) and was thinking of buying 3x of cheap video cards and getting the 6 displays that way.

I heard there is always a way where if I put a APU I can get 3 displays out of the APU alone and would just need 2x of cheap video cards to get my 6 displays.

Thanks for the reply. The video card you suggested seems to be expensive at around $150.00

It would be cheaper for me to just get 3 of any basic video card and get the 6 outputs. For around $60-75 for all 3 video cards.

Regarding the eyefinity. If I get a board with 1 PCI 16x slot and use an APU processor. Can I get 4 displays out of the APU, and the other 2 displays out of the video card in the 1 PCI 16x slot?

Seems that might be the cheapest solution

Looks like A8 and A10 are supporting Eyfinity :

And if you can hook-up mobo 3 monitors and the other 3 to PCI-E GPU ..... hmmmm should work ......

Hi adaseb,

Don't forget also that most motherboard already allows you to have 2 monitors plugged in. So you'd only need 2 extra graphic cards. Check this list:

http://multimonitorcomputer.com/top-4-best-videocard-for-multiple-monitor-computers.php

According to what you want (pay the least possible, sub 80$), I'd pick the firest card in that list.

Otherwise, I'd go for the LAST card, the 6 monitor one. That way, less trouble, AND if you decide to add monitors (once you've had 6, you want 10 ;) then you'll have the option to do so. Also, if you decide to GAME, then you'll also have the option to add a gaming card because you'll still have 2-3 PCI slots available. From experience, I'd rather have less card and keep expendability in mind.

Your call ;)
