Considering upgrading my PC

So with Christmas passed, I've gotten a fair bit of money and I figured now is probably the best time to upgrade my pc. The only issue is, I'm not entirely sure what needs it the most. Ideally, I'd like to be able to play pretty much any game at reasonably high settings for the next two years, as I'll be moving around a lot and won't get a chance to be able to spend money on it again for a while.

Right now my specs are:

Intel i5 760 2.8ghz
Radeon HD 7850 2gb
8gb RAM
2TB HDD
650W Earthwatts PSU

As for how much I've got to work with, I can spend around $500. I plan to sell anything I replace that's worth it, so that could result in a bit more, especially if I replace the GPU. I've only been PC gaming for the last two years, so I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff so any advice is appreciated.

Oh and I nearly forgot. I'd like to avoid overclocking if possible.

Solution
AMD FX 4130 is quite low end processor a FX 4300 is much better.
However Intel have kickass processor series! i5 4570 is very high end CPU for gaming and all. And yeah clock speed hardly matter in this comparison.
You can buy a i5 4670k which is having unlocked clock with a Z87 motherboard to overclock it at much higher rates with a good CPU cooler!

your current PC is also fair enough.
though for CPU if you can get a good amount in return from tis sell + mobo.

Upgrade to a i5 3470 or 4440 with a 4th gen mobo. For a near about 250$

for GPU R9 270x is nearest upgrade though it isnt much high upgrade you can spend about 300$ to get a R9 280x.

You have a well rounded system already. Probably the best things to do is upgrade the GPU/CPU. What mobo do you have? The GPU you have is a good all rounder and so is your CPU. Upgrade one or the other. If you go for GPU I'd have a look around at some AMD R9 290's or 280's. Or processors look at some i7's.

nah i7 will be way high just going for a i5 4440 like CPU is good enough or if you going for i7 it will be nice choice aswell ( and a MUCH great upgrade over current one ).

Though upgrading GPU is a more wiser choice to like R9 280x or 770 is enough.
But then again going anything equal to above GPUs or very higher you might feel bottlenecks.

So better you get your current CPU overclocked or sell of it to get a new gen i5.

What Niko_boy said. Unfortunately you're a bit stuck with your money/what you have. Going for a better CPU will give you better room and scope for upgrading your GPU as you'll avoid bottlenecks. Though upgrading to a better i5, you won't feel much of a difference.

Getting the next best GPU like an R9 280/290 or an nVidia 770 will be great long term for gaming as those cards will last a good while but you may feel some drag on the system due to the i5 processor.

In my complete and honest opinion I would get a new GPU. The drag MIGHT be noticible, but it might not. You're more likely to keep the graphics card for longer too.

My mobo is an ASUS P7P55D-E LX.

Looking at the gtx 770 cost and the i5 3470 it looks to come to around $550, minus whatever I sold the 7850 and the i5 760 for could put it in my price range. Unless I need a different mobo as well? Also, would my psu be enough for that? I tried checking calculators for that kind of stuff but I was quickly lost in the mass of numbers and such. >.>

so you mean after selling CPU and GPU you can gather around 550$ ?
well ok enough for upgrade.
However for mobo you need a B75 / H77 / Z77 mobo for a 3rd gen i5.

and for PSU that brand seem very unknown to me.
Oh i see its Antec's , it being a 80+ Bronze certified you can trust upon it for some good performance.

No, what I mean is that the CPU and GPU came to around $550 but if I sold my current ones too, the total cost would be lower. Not entirely sure by how much, I could probably get around $200ish for the GPU so both the GPU and CPU should be affordable. As for the mobo, can you link me one from newegg? I have no idea what to look for.

Sorry to bump and old thread but I saw no reason to make a new one. Is there any reason to go with the Intel Core i5-4570 over the AMD FX-4130 when it's twice it's cost and has a significantly slower clock speed?
