Alright

I have a EVGA nVidia 560 GTX that is about 22 months old. It is hooked up to a Quad Core 9550 intel chipset with a Asus P5N-T Deluxe mobo, gigs (low i know) of corsair memory, and a 2 year old Corsair TX750 power. I use a Dell U2412 IPS Monitor about 2 years old

1. I had the GeForce 327.23 WHQL drivers and they were working fine. Last night i decided to update the drivers so I uninstalled the current ones, Driver Fusion erased them in safe mode, then installed 331.82.

2. Everything says it went well. I rebooted the computer as prompted.. Windows loaded, then as soon as the Windows logo went away my screen went into energy saver mode..Black Screen and no change. waited a bit and nothing.

After some foul language, i powered down by the 5 second power button. Nothing on restart

3. Went into safe mode, removed the drivers and rebooted. The default drivers loaded up and the computer screen booted fine. I tried to reinstall the 331.82 drivers again thinking maybe corrupt and same problem

4. Uninstalled 331.82 again, tried to reinstall the old 327.23 drivers thinking I know those work. THE SCREEN STAYED BLACK AGAIN!!!

5. Getting worried I know that the most stable of the drivers for the 500 series cards is the 314.22 drivers which were ones I had used before. Same thing.. Black screen

6. try and use system restore. it restores it with no drivers though

7. moved the DVI cord from different ports on the video card and reseated the video card. No help

I am at a loss. I can boot in safe mode and see there. I can uninstall all drivers and see the computer when booting normally. The problem is I cannot load any *good* drivers and thus cannot play any games. Is my card toast cause of the installation of those drivers? What happened?

There will be an option in system restore to display many restore points.
Pick one that is back far enough to where all was running well.

Normally, you need not explicitly remove previous nvidi drivers. Perhaps doing so caused your problems.

You've tried just about everything that I would have tried. If safe mode still works I'm thinking it might be an O/S issue, maybe the driver cleaner didn't remove everything correctly from the registry.

I see you did the system repair, did you try rebooting with the O/S dvd and doing a startup repair? I had a weird issue a while back with an SSD and it turned out to be windows not loading all the drivers correctly during boot and the startup repair fixed it.

Other things to try is to move the card to a different slot if you have one on your board, try swapping in a different card if a buddy's got something you can try, and try your card in a different system to see if it behaves the same way.

Hi

There is a very comprehensive FAQ or set of instructions on removing old drivers before installing new ones
http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1174372

I have not used them as I have used ati Radeon cards for many years

To test your graphics card boot up from a live Linux cd and see if xwindows (graphics interface ) works or if you have a spare hard disk re install windows, motherboard chipset driver then graphics driver from cd or DVD drivers disk

No need to activate Windows

yes, I did the system restore to a safe point. It still did not work though oddly. I could understand removing the previous removal causing the problem, but once removed I could see the screen. It was only when i installed new drivers that the problem arrived.

yea, I might have to try a different slot. It seems to me too that it is something between the OS and the drivers.. Maybe the repair will work. I need to try that

I still use that method. Driver Fusion is what Driver Sweeper became. Now even EVGA says not to use that method even though they have it on their boards still *says outdated*, but I still have always used it.
