I heard that using the live update 5 feature is a good way to brick it. So how do I update it by USB. Step by step instructions would be usefull. I heard that the download of msi are in zip but that it the motherboard can't use zipped. So once I download it to a USB how to I unzip a file. Then is it just plug in to motherboard his flash bios and, lastly how do I select the new bios is there a button that will say update by USB ?

most new copys of windows have unzip built into them or people download free unzip program like winzip.
copy the zip file to the usb stick and unzip it. it have a file name with .rom on the end. (asus uses .cap)
go into the bios and under advance mode is a update tab. click on the update tab and let the bios updater seach for the usb stick. if there more then one drive you may have to tab to each drive found till the bios file shows up.

It didn't work, my windows did extract and I searched and people said on forums it's the same as unzip so I saved the unzip version on my USB and deleted the zipped verison booted hit flash bios tab hit update the picked the USB and it said no bios found. The file format might be wrong when I went to properties it was called something like 71228v18 no .rom or .jpeg or . Anything in the name. How do I check to see what . Format it is. I went to properties but it wasn't obvious. I built this computer from scratch, I thought I would be able to do something like this w/o issue. :(

Did that, then hit boot from bios from USB, update from USB and nothing was recognized on the flash yet.? How do I check that it is in .rom format or is there something else wrong. It sees the flash just not the file on it.

you go into the bios and click on bios update on the first bios screen then have it look for the bios file on your usb stick if you have usb update enabled.

What do you mean by,"brick it?" I use the live update 5 feature to update the bios on my MSI Z87 GD65 board and everything ran fine afterward with the new latest bios version.

Dylan register to the MSI forum if you haven't already and download the 1.25 usb flash tool from the forum. Here's the link to the flash tool>>>>> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119375.0

Here's a video from YouTube that will help you also>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZJ9OJjpL-Y

Link to latest AMI 1.9 bios>>>>> http://msi.com/product/mb/Z87GD65_GAMING.html#download

The MSI flash tool is very easy to use just follow the instructions and don't interrupt your PC during the flash. I learned the hard way with some Asus boards several ago. Also let the flash tool configure your flash drive for FAT file format and you should be good to go from there. Hit F11 on boot and boot from usb flash memory and flash the bios. Stay away from the live update it can brick your board easily if the system hangs during the flash. The MSI Z87 GD65 is a very good board once you learn how to use all the features and what not to use with it. Live update isn't one of the best features to use with the board. Any other questions I can walk you thru everything.

Install the killer net drivers from the official MSI Z87-GD65 website and you get instant access to your network. This is nothing big but indeed some motherbords were not up to date in the past and u had to go through a BIOS upgrade before this step.

Hi, I'm having the same issue. I've formatted my flash drive, copied the files over. In bios i opened m-flash, selected the flash drive. It then say's, " No files found. Please copy into the sub-folder". This is a little strange. I even checked a video tutorial which was successful and identical to how I approached it. Any thought please?
