Hey guys, I'm about ready to upgrade my pc, my ram sucks, my mobo is broken and my cpu is fine but i wouldnt mind having better since im spalshing out on ram/mobo.

Currently ive got the amd fx 6100
4gb kingston value ram 1333mhz ddr3
M5A78L-M/USB3
my gpu which doesnt need upgrading yet (open to suggestions though) is the radeon hd 6870

Here's what i want:

2x4gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram (£40-£60)
any cheap ass mobo (£40-£60)
cpu is a difficult one since i want 6 cores or even 8 (i dont just game) but i need 4ghz+ which amd cpu would be best? or would it be better to buy better cooling solution and overclock? (£80-£130~)

You could get a fx 6300 on oced but you will need a good mobo for that then, go with the fx 8320 and oc if you want 8 cores.

Budget for the gpu would be nice if you want to upgrade.

Thanks
I've decided not to upgrade my cpu, I'm going to buy a better cooling solution and oc this 6100 instead but i still need a new mobo and 2x4gb 1600mhz ram.

Why do you suggest that gigabyte mobo?

and is this ram is killing me, whats with all the different names kingston is dishing out?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-Genesis-1600MHz/dp/B004JO3L40/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1388457655&sr=1-4&keywords=kingston+hyperx
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-khx16c9b1rk28x

Which ram is best? All these red, blue, grey, genesis bullcrap all cost around £60 for 2x4gb 1600mhz... whats the difference?

Thanks,

The red ram is like £1 cheaper as a 2x4gb kit so you're saying the only real difference between all these flavours is irrelevant to me unless i like to oc ram? (which i dont)

That mobo looks great but after reading the reviews it seems it hates the fx-6100 and has had to be returned for refund for quite a few people with an fx-6100 :(

Could you or someone give me some tips for looking for a new mobo? I'm clueless when it comes to mobos and its all okay just reading reviews on what you guys post but would be great if i could look for myself also since right now i dont really see a difference between a £17 mobo and a £170 one except the £170 just has more slots for everything which i know isnt just as simple as that

Remember that you said you´re going to overclock that cpu so you´re going to need a capable motherboard that support serious overclocking, a good power management and all that stuff, then it won´t happen like a guy here who blew up his motherboard and maybe his cpu doing a massive overclock without knowing how to do it.

Look at this one.

I've taken this cpu to 5.0GHz a year ago with my liquid cooling, do i really need that msi mobo?

I'll probably get that msi mobo but now the ram is killing me, ive found ever color kingston offers for £60 for 1600mhz 2x4gb.. they're all the same price, so which is best?

and what about these ripjaws? http://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Skill-Ripjaws-DDR3-2133-Dual/dp/B0050119O0/ref=pd_sim_computers_9

Edit: To ease confusion, im using the stock amd cooler atm and ill be buying the hyper 212 evo my liquid cooling is broken

By the hyper x chart the beast ones are the best, as they all cost the same go with that or you can go with the black ones, they looks like the same in specs and the heat spreader is shorter so no problems with cpu coolers along the way.

Now that you said that then is a matter of preference, go with a solid one, or stay with your mobo that looks like a very stable one so...

Thanks, ill most likely buy that msi one then but what about these gskill ripjaws 2133mhz ram? Why is it so cheap compared to kingston?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Skill-Ripjaws-DDR3-2133-Dual/dp/B0050119O0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388518568&sr=8-1&keywords=ripjaws+2133mhz

Sorry to pester but im having a real hard time understanding all the differences between brands and stuff.. i know 2133mhz is faster than 1600mhz but i cant explain how they're the same price...? Shall i get the ripjaws?

To be honest I don´t get those prices, looks like in amazon any 8GB kit costs the same, for you any will suffice those g skill looks better to me so choose the one you likes more or get the black one so it will match the mobo :p

ok, thanks for all the help.

Integrated peripherals / components
Memory controller
The number of controllers: 1
Memory channels: 2
Supported memory: DDR3-1866

Looks like my cpu wont support the 2133mhz, so ill go for the kingston beasts most likely..

I'll probably be buying in a day or two but if you have any other suggestions for mobos (cheaper) that would be great!

As far as performance is considered 1600MHz or 1866MHz is considered the sweet spot. 2133MHz or above comes handy when you are running heavy memory intensive softwares like VM's Or video rendering with large data formats this speed should come in handy but there isn't lot increase in performance but it does provide higher memory bandwidth.

Usually, the default speed of the memory is 1333Mhz and it is tested to run @2133MHz, you can set this in your BIOS using the utility.
Checked all the kingstons rams again and they all come with 1.65 volt not the 1.5 standard and that can cause some incompatibilities issues so go with the gskill.

This are better though

Thanks, you replied before i edited my post.. the 2133mhz was incompatible with my fx6100, but it says it supports 1866 so this link youve given me looks great! cheap too :)

Are these g skill plug and play? Just plonk them in my new mobo and it'll just work @ 1866mhz?

pit_1209

I certainly know that at 1600mhz always is like that with that g skill really don´t know but if anything you just have to set it in the bios nothing hard or risky you´re not overclocking just setting it at the supported frecuency.

Thanks, I have seen a few posts about these snipers though where people cant get them to run at 1866mhz... Will that mobo and my fx-6100 run it at 1866mhz out the box or atleast need to tweak some settings in the bios?
I read that some guys had to update their bios and some others had to do some crazy (crazy because i didnt understand it) stuff to get them to run at 1866mhz... :O

About the fx6350, i like it but ive decided not to upgrade cpu. I've got a 212 evo on the way and im gonna oc :)

Legenda in Aeternum
With a 6100 you might or might not be able to run 1866, depends on your individual CPU some can others can't, same even with the 6350 suggested, a good thing with them is that the 1866/9 set runs about the same price as 1600 sticks and if any problem at 1866 can drop the sticks to 1600 and tighten the timings down to run at 1600 CL8 which is near same performance as 1866/9

Thanks for the help!
Ill order my stuff tomorrow sometime, anyone feel free to make suggestions in the meantime :)
