Hello all,

I am building a PC for my bro and we have decided on all the parts. I posted in the systems forum earlier to check that they are all compatible, and someone mentioned that certain motherboards don't support the AMD FX-6300 out of the box, and that they need a BIOS update. Anyway, long story short I am now very confused about AMD motherboards :p . Can someone please tell me if this motherboard will work with the FX-6300 out of the box and if not how can you tell?

Thanks in advance :) .

The Gigabyte model is a discontinued one. As you can see from the picture in your link showing "2011 performance" on the box. The FX-6300 is listed as requiring BIOS version F13 dated 2012/10/26.

You might try finding a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 which is the current model. An AMD 970 chipset model might be £10 -£15 less.

Thanks for the response. So the CPU is 100% out of the box supported by the motherboard?
This motherboard has all of the features we would like and I have found it for £75, and I have a preference for Gigabyte motherboards. Although the MSI looks quite good it doesn't have all the features I'm looking for.

As for the speed ,chipset 970 is only 8% slower than 990 .
