So a few years ago I bought a Lenovo H430 Desktop PC. I was happy at the time and everything but since then my knowledge in PC computinng has progressed to the level that I am capable of upgrading and building my own system. I'm a big hater of Windows 8 and for that reason have 7's but don't like them AT ALL since I've used Ubuntu all my life. So I want to go back to Ubuntu as soon as I can since Windows isn'T working for me at this point in time. My mums birthday is approaching soon and I she needs a new computer so instead of buying her a new one I would like to upgrade mine and build her one form the "old" parts...

But I've heard there are some problems with Windows activations when replacing certain PC parts so how do I get around this ??

I will be replacing the motherboard, PSU, RAM and the HDD and want to my mum to use Windows..

So to sum up : Can I still use my OEM liscence if I change the CPU but keep the HDD ?

Thanks for replies and happy new year ! :)

The key component in question is the motherboard. HDD, CPU, etc....no prob.
A Win 7 OEM license is tied to that first motherboard.

Microsoft may authorize activation on new hardware, but they are under no obligation to. You'll probably have to go through the phone robot to do so.

So the liscence is tied ONLY to the motherboard and no other not usually changed hardware like the HDD or CPU ??
And what are my chances that M$ will reactivate my liscence ? And what about de-activating my liscence and then reactivating it ?

There is no 'deactivation'. They can be pretty lenient, though. The only way to know is to try it.
If it doesn't work...it doesn't work.
