i am currently doing my first build and i think my motherboard is fried and i am looking for a new 1 i was wondering if you could maybe recommend me a reasonable priced that can hold 2x4gb ram and has a lga1155 socket.

also i am willing to try anything before buying a new motherboard so if you have any tips on how to get it to run i am more than pleased to try.

the problem:
when i turn my new pc on it powers up for less than a few seconds and powers down, reboots and cycles also i am not getting anything on the monitor display except no signal.
also the mobo needs atleast 1x pcie x16 slot for my graphics card

thanks in advance :)

edit: also my current motherboard is a ASUS P8Z77-V LX, and my power supply is a XFX 850W core edition, ram 2x4 vengeance low profile. graphics card radeon 7850 xfx 1gb core edition. 2tb seagate hard drive

i just assumed i'd hear them sorry im not a tech wiz :p and i dont have one built into the board i have connected the front panel speaker but no sound is coming out. also i have nothing on my display atm :/
edit: also i dont know if the front panel is a piezo or small speaker that would give me the beeps

At a minimum you should connect a piezo or a small speaker to the speaker pins on the front panel connector of the motherboard. There may be no beeps at all, but you may also hear beeps indicating a faulty PSU or memory (often caused by modules that aren't fully inserted), etc. Didn't your case include a piezo? You can most likely get a speaker or piezo from a local PC shop.

i dont own a piezo or a small speaker i have a cable with speaker written on it which i have connected but i can't hear no beeps. for a small speaker what sort of things could i use for example? maybe headphones? atm i am going to try it without ram and then 1 stick of ram at a time.

If the speaker cable is from your case, then it's fine. If there are no beeps at all even when memory modules have been removed, then check if the PSU provides the correct voltages with a DVM.

Why would you think your motherboard is fried? What exactly did you do that could have damaged it?

just its the only explanation i can think of and from what i have read alot is linked to the mobo but surely considering the power stays on now that means it isnt?

The power staying on doesn't prove much other than the 24 pin PSU cable is connected and the PSU probably provides all required voltages. As mentioned by juanjostorreshernndez, the CPU ATX 12v cable (4 or 8 pin) also is connected? If everything is connected properly and the PSU provides all voltages, then the motherboard probably is defective.

okay well i have a voltmeter in the loft which i can probably use have u got any ideas how i test the voltages?

You should get no more than +-5% from nominal values on +12v,+3,3v, +5v rails
for instance +12v atx tolerance is +-5% = +-0,6v
wich means you must be from 11,4v~12,6v
if you drop furder, then your PSU voltage regulation is faulty.
Another thing to consider would be the quality of the voltage( noise and ripple levels) but that is harder to get cause you will need an Oscilloscope.
The maximun allowed is 120mv for the +12v and -12v outputs, and 50mv for the +5v,+3,3v,+5VSB outputs.

But taking into account the quality of that PSU, is hard to say that is PSU issues:
That particular PSU is made by SEASONIC, one of the best of all times(if not the best) with more than 37years of experience on the market. The efficiency of XFX850W is flawless, noise and ripple levels are extremely low, voltage regulation is tremendous(less than 3%). So if you dont have a faulty unit, you must look to other possible harware issues.

my voltmeter is out of battery :D but going to try a spare PSU on monday if that doesnt work then i shall replace the motherboard, is there a chance of this being a cpu problem its brand new but may aswell ask

A faulty CPU is really hard to find, but its possible too due to bad configurations and cooling on OC activities.
I recommend you to read some build tutorial to get more close to matter.
