Howdy,

I removed a HD from my old laptop which had a broken screen and was planning on plugging it into my new laptop and extracting some files off it. But everytime I plug it into my laptop it asks it needs to be formatted. I went into bios and tried to run the external HD on startup but as soon as it tried to load the OS on the external HD it crashed with the lovingly warm blue screen to appear.
I don't want to format it since it has my data on it =[ If I remember correctly it was running Windows XP and now I'm using Windows 7, would that make much difference as to whether I'm capable of accessing it as a data storage format in it's current state?

Your help would be much appreciated, thanks! =]

Bit of a late night this is turning to be :S well when I plug my EHDD two drives show up under 'My Compiuter'

Drive F and G, I ran chkdsk /f on G and it gave finally gave me access into G without asking for a format. Now I tried running it on F which houses all my data and well....nothing for about 5 hours, as soon as I did chkdsk /f nothing happened so I know I shouldn't have but I cancelled it out of pure boredom. I'm going to run another check see if it comes back with anything but I havith no clue.
