Thinking of Crossfire setup for my desktop

THIS IS A LITTLE BIT LONG, BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT. IT IS NOT AN ESSAY!

Hello there! I am gonna get my specs out of the way before anything else:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 Ghz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4850 1gb
Desktop: Dell Optiplex 745, Mini Tower form factor
PSU: 520 Watt power supply, can't remember brand or model
Chipset: Intel Q965 Express
Now that that is out of the way, I was wondering...I want to get more graphical power out of my desktop, as overclocking is literally blocked off to me (this card freaks when i change clock speeds because I have a messed up copy of GPU Tweak on my desktop and cannot get rid of it). Anyway, since i have a case lying around, i was wondering if i should get a new motherboard that is crossfire ready AND useable with the LGA 775 type CPU socket (and preferably will accept ddr2 ram, but I can buy a different type if needed), then move the other things into this case such as disk drive, harddrives, etc. and after all that, buy another ATI Radeon HD 4850 1gb card and set up a dual bridge crossfire on top of this new motherboard,
OR.....
Should i just use my desktop as is for now and start building a brand new machine into that old case? Either way, i would like to tribute my old desktop, as it was a custom build for a small kindergarten server that did it's job for almost 4 years after a clean install until the harddrive finally gave way to it's own age and nearly collapsed on a system startup. Since then, I got another used desktop and the old one was gutted by my brother, but the case is still in my basement. This desktop was very tough for the time it ran, and I would like to do a gaming overhaul on it and bring it back to life! Please let me know which would be more practical to do to tribute this old machine!

Personally i would recommend newer hardware, as that stuff is fairly ancient now. Your cpu description is slightly weird...do you have an actual model number?.

ANYWAYS, also could you list your budget on computer related stuff? basically what you are willing to spend for a better gaming/graphics type pc

Also perhaps list the games you are trying to play, as this will help with recommendations on video cards and other hardware

Upgrading your current PC makes little sense once you figure out how much you'd have to spend just for a LITTLE more performance.

Your CPU is a bottleneck, your DDR2 memory may be too little and if you have 32-bit Windows it's not even a good idea to get a 2GB video card (more than 1GB today is a very good idea).

My advice would be spend $700 or more on a new system (for the main components and Windows). If you can manage even more money, building around the $220 i5-4670K CPU is a great idea and you can build something pretty good for $1000.

Well, I play BeamNG and Rigs of Rods...i also have Garry's Mod with Counter Strike and TF2, and planning to buy DayZ. And i thought about it...I really don't want to recycle parts from my current PC, and the only thing i can really recycle for other old parts is the case i mentioned in my question. I would like a lot of power for the newer games since i am finally exhausted with trying to upgrade this old fart. I think i should give it to my little bro after i am finished the new build...

Anyway, my budget is usually about $300 a month available, but I am patient enough to save my money up for things like this, so go crazy with your price reccomendation! I would rather wait to buy quality parts than look for the nearest hong kong deathwish right away anyway! And it would be fun building into that old case anyhow!

One thing i would like for certain, though...I would like to have a crossfire capable MOBO, just for the sake of watching crossfire wind up and go, but I am still fine without it as long as the motherboard is good!

I was thinking about this too, and now that i think about it, i have already taken a $700 dump on this machine to get so little from it. And after 3 years i finally have an entry level graphics card? What the hell am i thinking, i gotta buy new if i want ANY PERFORMANCE AT ALL! Transferring my BeamNG and Steam games would be a pain, but what do i care so long as i have a pc that is able to do any gaming for once? I also want a lot more space to fit things anyway, which my stupid little Dell does not offer much of right now. No offense to it, it's done all it can, but it is just not worth the time and money anymore. In one way, i feel stupid posting this question when the answer was so obvious, but i also am glad about posting it because reading this out showed me the perspective i needed to realize what kind of bullcrap I have dealt with for so long! Thanks for your help!
